Florida running back Jordan Cronkrite did not travel with the Gators for their matchup with Georgia and is currently not with the team.

Saturday night yielded some happy times for the Gators. They picked up a 24-10 win over rival Georgia. Tennessee fell to South Carolina, thus increasing Florida’s lead in the SEC East, and even in-state rival Florida State fell to Clemson.

But Saturday wasn’t without a bitter moment.

Sophomore running back Jordan Cronkrite did not make the trip with the rest of the Gators to Jacksonville, and Jim McElwain made it clear Cronkrite is not with the team right now.

“He’s trying to figure out whether he wants to play or not,” McElwain said. “Our door’s always open for him. Until he finds his way in what he wants to do, we’re here to support him.”

Cronkrite is one of four running backs Florida has used this season. True freshman Lamical Perine, redshirt junior Mark Thompson, and sophomore Jordan Scarlett are the others.

Thompson was suspended for the Georgia game after he was cited for marijuana possession on Thursday.

But Scarlett torched the Bulldogs for 93 rushing yards and a touchdown on 26 carries, and Perine added 33 yards on 15 carries.

However, if any one of those three halfbacks is qualified to speak on the situation with Cronkrite, it’s Scarlett. The two were both a part of the Gators’ 2015 recruiting class.

Scarlett, who was a 4-star recruit and the No. 13 running back in that cycle, acknowledged Cronkrite, a former 3-star prospect, has some issues to work through.

“[Cronkrite is] just going through some things right now, and I think he’ll be alright in the end,” Scarlett said. “I’m letting him have his space. I’ll let him have his personal time and just let him figure out what’s best for him.”

Cronkrite was the No. 51 running back in that 2015 class and had offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State and others.
