Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs says Gus Malzahn will be the Tigers coach for a “long, long time.” We’ve heard that before.
Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn should be worried about his job. Athletic director Jay Jacobs has given him the “long, long time” vote of confidence.
As pointed out by TheAuburner, Jacobs used the same phrasing when promising that the jobs of the last two Auburn head coaches prior to Malzahn were safe.
“I’m looking forward to Tommy being the coach at Auburn for a long, long time,” Jacobs said about Tommy Tuberville. He was fired after going 5-7 in 2008.
“We look forward to Coach Chizik being our coach at Auburn for a long, long time,” Jacobs said about Gene Chizik. Not even the 2010 BCS National Championship could save Chizik. He was fired after going 3-8 in 2012.
So, when asked on Wednesday if he was fully supportive of Malzahn, Jacobs went to the old standby.
“He’s our coach and he’ll be our coach for a long, long time,” Jacobs said.
Don’t want to jump the gun, but it might be time for Malzahn to line up a good mover.
