Houston vs. Cincinnati prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins the AAC matchup between the Cougars and Bearcats.

Houston vs. Cincinnati Game Preview

When: Thursday, September 15 – 7:30 p.m. ET

Where:
Nippert Stadium, Cincinnati, OH

TV Broadcast:
ESPN

Houston looks like a realistic College Football Playoff party crasher, but one slip-up and it is all gone. The Cougars survived without the services of Greg Ward Jr. against Lamar, but that won’t be as easy if the star quarterback can’t play this week against Cincinnati.

The Bearcats are coming off a big, 38-20 win over Purdue. Head coach Tommy Tuberville has a history of upsetting teams in the top 10. Could this be another example of his magic?

What To Know About Houston

If Greg Ward Jr. is healthy, then the Cougars have nothing to worry about. If he is not, Houston will count on Kyle Postma, who was mediocre in taking Ward’s spot. The running game of Kevrin Justice and, Mulbar Car and whoever is at quarterback will provide nightmares for the Bearcats defense.

Houston’s defense shut down Lamar, but will have its hands full with the Bearcats. Steven Taylor and Brandon Wilson have led the Cougars defense, and will count on the help of Matthew Adams to contain the Cincinnati attack.

What to Know About Cincinnati

As stated before, Tuberville knows how to win big games, and he will count on quarterback Hayden Moore to lead the Bearcats against a tough Cougars defense. The running back duo of Kahlil Lewis and Mike Boone adds an extra dimension to the Cincinnati offense.

The Bearcats defense is able to turn the tables as well, with safety Mike Tyson recording three interceptions in the blowout against Purdue.

Advantages

Offense: Houston. That is, if Ward is playing.

Defense: Houston. It shut down the Oklahoma offense when needed.

Special Teams: Houston. See that return against Oklahoma.

Coaching: Tie. Herman is the hot name on the market, but Tuberville still has a lot of experience.

Intangibles: Houston. They are going for more than an AAC title.

Houston vs. Cincinnati Prediction

Ward will play, he will shine once again, and the Cougars will prove that they belong in the College Football Playoff picture alongside the likes of Alabama and Ohio State. It will be a close game, and winning at Nippert Stadium against a well-coached team will further raise the profile for Houston.
