The No. 3 Iowa Hawkeyes will travel to College Park, Md. to battle the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins on Thursday night.
The Hawkeyes (16-3, 7-0 Big Ten) are rolling having won nine straight games, including all seven of their conference games leading to this matchup. Iowa recently completed a season sweep of Purdue, beating the Boilermakers 83-71 in Iowa City, Iowa last time out. The Hawkeyes trailed by two at the midway point but opened up the second half on a 23-6 run, which Purdue couldn’t recover from. Jarrod Uthoff continued to show why he is one of the best players in the country as he lead the Hawkeyes with a game-high 22 points. Adam Woodbury finished with his second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season with a 13-point, 10-rebound effort.
The Terrapins (17-3, 6-2 Big Ten) have had their struggles in the state of Michigan this season as both their Big Ten losses have come in Ann Arbor and East Lansing. Maryland faced a desperate Michigan State team last Saturday and couldn’t match the intensity, falling 74-65. The Spartans led for nearly the entire game and were able to hold off the Terps late with key rebounds and free throws. Maryland had no way to contain Michigan State’s three headed monster of Bryn Forbes (25 points), Denzel Valentine (19 points, 14 rebounds) and Matt Costello (15 points, 12 rebounds). Melo Trimble paced Maryland with a team-high 24 points.
Thursday’s high profile matchup will be the fifth between Iowa and Maryland. The winner will break the current 2-2 series tie as Mark Turgeon looks for his first win against Iowa as head coach (0-2).

It can be difficult to win in College Park. We know that. The Hawkeyes could easily win this game, but this one feels like the Terps will scratch out a win. They’re on their home floor, and Trimble will knock down some clutch threes to help put his team ahead. Iowa will win the battle on the boards, but Maryland will get out and run in transition and come out on top.
- Iowa has 13 consecutive Big Ten regular season wins dating back to last year. A win Thursday would match its longest Big Ten win streak in school history (14 in 1969-70).
- Melo Trimble has six games in which he’s scored 20+ points this season.
- Jarrod Uthoff is the only player from a Power 5 conference with 350+ points, 115+ rebounds and 55+ blocks.
