JUCO defensive tackle Javier Edwards committed to Florida on Thursday, giving the Gators their seventh commit in 2017.

Jim McElwain is continuing to add to his 2017 recruiting class. After starting Thursday with six commits, Florida added lucky number seven in the form of JUCO defensive tackle Javier Edwards, who made his pledge to Gator Nation via Twitter.

Edwards stands at 6-foot-3, 350 lbs and currently attends Blinn College in Houston.

The Gators now sit at No. 27 in the 2017 class rankings following Edwards’ decision.

McElwain flexed his muscle on the JUCO portion of the recruiting trail in the 2016 class when he landed running back Mark Thompson and wide receiver Dre Massey, both of whom are likely to see significant playing time this season.

In the same class, Florida also landed the No. 1 JUCO kicker in the country, Eddy Pineiro, who will likely be starting for the Gators come their opening game against Massachusetts on Sept. 3.

Edwards is the second defensive line commit within a week for Florida, who also picked up a commitment from 3-star defensive tackle Jordon Scott.
