The No. 25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish will travel to the Carrier Dome on Thursday to take on the Syracuse Orange.
The Fighting Irish (14-5, 5-2 ACC) are playing at a high level having won the last four games, including a 76-49 beatdown of Boston College the last time out. The Eagles used an 8-0 run to pull within five at the half, but the Irish stormed out of the gates on a 16-2 run to open the second half and kept that momentum going for the win. After Demetrius Jackson left the game with an injury, Steve Vasturia and Bonzie Colson led the way for the Irish as each scored 16 points. Zach Auguste made his presence known inside as he posted his 11th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Orange (13-8, 3-5 ACC) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday as it fell to the Virginia Cavaliers, 73-65, in Charlottesville, Va. Syracuse battled back from a 10-point deficit to tie the game, 47-47, in the second half. But Malcolm Brogdon hit consecutive three-pointers to stop the Orange’s run and help the Hoos pull away. Syracuse received a big-time performance from Michael Gbinije who scored 24 points and came away with four steals, while Malachi Richardson was right behind him with 23 points.
Thursday’s matchup between Notre Dame and Syracuse will mark the 47th meeting all-time. The Orange leads the series 27-19 and has won six of the last seven games between the two programs.
