All-Patriot League Announced in Swimming & Diving

Feb. 24, 2016

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its All-League team in men’s and women’s swimming and diving Wednesday afternoon. Navy is well represented following a strong showing at the Patriot League championships last weekend at the Naval Academy’s Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md. The Midshipmen combined for 33 honors.

A total of 73 student-athletes earned All-League status — 37 on the men’s side and 36 on the women’s side. The men’s first team is made up of 18 swimmers, while a tie in the points landed 19 on the second team. Both the first and second team on the women’s side is comprised of 18 athletes.

Of the 33 Mids on the All-League teams, 17 are men (10 first-team, seven second-team) and 16 are women (11 first-team, five second-team). Army West Point checks in next with a total of 13 athletes earning honors, with seven on the men’s side (two first-team, five second-team) and six on the women’s (two first-team, four second-team). Boston University saw 11 student-athletes earn All-League laurels, as four men (two first-team, two second-team) and seven women (three first-team, four second-team) were honored. Lehigh (8), Bucknell (6), Lafayette (1), Loyola Maryland (1) followed.

A total of 17 athletes received first-team honors for a second consecutive year. Of those athletes, six have earned All-League laurels all four years: Jonathan Debaugh (Navy), Thomas Duvall (Navy), Alex Nickell (Navy), Ellen Bradford (Navy), Rachael Dudley (Navy), and Emma Levendoski (Bucknell).

Individuals who win events at the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships automatically qualify for the All-League first team, while runner-up finishers are guaranteed a second-team spot. Both teams are back-filled by points, meaning a second-team member can move up to the first team if they accumulated enough points during the meet. Only individual points count.
