Arkansas-Pine Bluff beats Mississippi Valley State 78-71

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) Ghiavonni Robinson sank five 3-pointers and scored 26 points to propel Arkansas-Pine Bluff to a 78-71 win over Mississippi Valley State in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday night.

Trent Whiting added 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists for Pine Bluff (8-24, 6-12 Southwestern Athletic Conference), which went 7 for 9 from long range in the first half and finished 45 percent from the field overall.

Tied at 52 midway through the second half, Pine Bluff took the lead for good with a 6-0 spurt capped by Whiting’s dunk. Mississippi Valley (6-26, 6-12) pulled to within a point with a pair of free throws from Marcus Romain that made it 61-60 with 6:19 left before Pine Bluff pulled away again with an 8-1 run and hung on the rest of the way.

Romain led Mississippi Valley with a career-high 31 points.
