Army Defeats UConn, 17-9, in First of Two Games on Saturday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army club women’s lacrosse team outscored Connecticut’s club team, 10-2, in the second half en route to a 17-9 victory over the Huskies on Saturday afternoon at Shea Stadium.

Army, which improves to 3-0 on the year, received hat tricks from senior Amanda Harrison and junior Leah Wasserman, as well as two-goal contributions from senior Erin Kelly and freshmen Haley Robinette and Kiersten Spencer.

Robinette also added a team-high four draw controls for the Black Knights, while Spencer registered three draw controls and three ground balls. Sophomore Erin Jollota finished with a goal, three draw controls and a pair of ground balls and freshman Amy Johnston scored once, assisted on two other goals and tallied three ground balls.

Army and Connecticut entered the halftime break with seven goals each before the hosts broke out for 10 goals in the second half, including three from Harrison and two by Wasserman.

Sophomore goalie Dominique Butts made four saves.

Army is in action later today at Shea Stadium, when it hosts the club team from the University of Massachusetts at 3 p.m.

The 2015 season marks Army’s final year at the club level, as the program will transition to the Division I ranks for its inaugural varsity campaign in the 2015-16 academic year and will compete in the Patriot League during the 2016 season.
