WEST POINT, N.Y. – Inside Lacrosse came out with its preseason coaches’ poll for the Patriot League and Army was picked to finish second in the league, while John Glesener, Alex Daly and Sam Somers were tabbed as preseason All-Patriot League by the coaches.

Loyola was the unanimous top selection to repeat as Patriot League Champions, while Army was selected second. Lehigh and Bucknell round out the top four in the poll, while Colgate and Navy are lingering in the fifth and sixth spots, respectively. The final three were Boston University, Lafayette and Holy Cross.

The Black Knights saw Glesener earn preseason honors again as one of the top attackers in the league. Daly returns for another season and is projected as the best faceoff player in the conference and Somers is ready for his final season with Army and was the pick as the top goalie going into the 2015 season.

Glesner has already been recognized this offseason as he was voted as a second team preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse. Glesener led the Patriot League in goals per game at just over three and was third in points per contest. He finished with 57 points on 43 goals and 14 assists for the Black Knights in 2014.

Somers made preseason third team earlier this month. He was at the top of the list in the conference in goals against average and save percentage. Somers anchored a defensive unit that was the top ranked defense in the nation, allowing 7.21 goals against.

Daly was given his first preseason nod by Inside Lacrosse after a 2014 season where he had a .563 (147-261) winning percentage at the X for the Black Knights. That number ranked him fourth in the Patriot League. He led the team in ground balls with 85 and was fourth in the league with 6.54 per contest. Daly’s best outing of the 2014 season came against Lehigh, when he won 12-of-15 faceoffs in a 6-5 win on March 22 and ended up winning double-digit faceoffs in nine games.

Army kicks off its season on Feb. 7 with a visit to UMass and then opens the home season two days later with a matchup against VMI at Michie Stadium.
