West Point, N.Y. – The Leopards fell to Army in West Point, N.Y. on Friday night in women’s volleyball action. Lafayette was led by Elizabeth Walsh with nine kills, while Lauren Pisauro came up with 13 digs.
Lafayette moved to 5-22 overall and 2-13 in the Patriot League, while Army improved to 14-14 overall and 9-6 in conference play. Lafayette’s Tori Smith had nine kills and 12 assists in the match, while the Black Knights were led by Jaden Pickell’s 12 kills.
Army jumped out to an early 10-3 lead in the opening set. Lafayette trimmed the deficit to 12-6 on kills from Katherine Stevens and Danielle Towslee. The Black Knights answered with an 8-2 run to push the advantage to 20-8. An ace from Pisauro and a block from Stevens and Tori Smith made it 23-15, but Army took the next two points and won the first set, 25-15.
In the second set, Lafayette opened up a 7-5 lead on a pair of kills from Jet Manzi. Lafayette maintained its lead, as a kill from Walsh made it 13-11. Army used an 8-3 spurt to take a 19-13 lead late in the second frame. The Black Knights controlled the rest of the set, winning the game, 25-18, and taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
The teams exchanged points in the third game, before a 6-3 run from the Leopards pushed Lafayette ahead, 16-13. A block from Kelly Flynn increased the Lafayette advantage to 19-15. Army tied the set at 21, before a kill from Katherine Stevens edge the Leopards in front, 22-21. The Black Knights took the next four points to win the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
The Leopards are back in action for the final time this season tomorrow afternoon at Holy Cross.
