Campbell Garners Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week Honor

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After three strong performances in the throwing events at the George Mason Invite, Navy men’s track and field sophomore John Campbell (Amarillo, Texas) was named M-F Athletic Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the league office on Monday.

Campbell had three strong performances in the throw events, tallying two first-place finishes and one second-place finish. The sophomore thrower capture first in both the discus and hammer. Campbell placed first in the discus with a throw of 178ft-8in (54.45m). He then followed up with IC4A-qualifying throws in the shot put (52ft-0.5in; 15.86m) and hammer (185ft-4in; 56.48m).

Campbell’s discus mark was a career best and places Campbell 21st in the NCAA East Region. His three top-two finishes helped Navy take first place in the 13-team field.

Navy will look ahead to a two-day Charlotte Invitational, beginning on Friday in Charlotte, North Carolina.
