Caruso ’94 Selected to Patriot League 25th Anniversary Team

Aug. 11, 2015

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lafayette women’s soccer and women’s basketball standout Heidi Caruso ’94 was selected to the Patriot League Women’s Soccer 25th Anniversary Team, the League announced on Tuesday morning. Caruso was named the Patriot League Player of the Year in 1991 and currently sits in third in League history in career points (143) and goals scored (63).

Caruso led the Leopards in scoring each year and netted a school-record 18 goals and five assists during her sophomore campaign. A four-year starter, Caruso tallied 63 goals and 17 assists over a 69-game career, accounting for over 46 percent of the Leopards’ goals.

A Maroon Club Scholar-Athlete, Caruso earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors three times and was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Umbro All-Central Region Second Team in 1993. Perhaps her most impressive effort came in a non-conference game versus Gettysburg College in 1990 when she tallied a school-record four goals in a 9-1 Lafayette victory.

The Patriot League is releasing 25th Anniversary Teams throughout the month of August for each sport that has been sponsored by the League since it became an all-sport conference beginning in the 1990-91 season. In addition to the 25th Anniversary Teams, coverage throughout the 2015-16 season will focus on former student-athletes and top stories in the history of the Patriot League.
