CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Colgate defeated American 1-0 on a penalty kick by senior Caroline Brawner in the 73rd minute to secure the regular-season title and earn the top seed and hosting duties for the 2014 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Tournament.

The Raiders will be joined by No. 2 seed Boston University and will have a bye into the semifinal round at Beyer-Small ’76 Field in Hamilton, N.Y. No. 3 seed Navy will host No. 6 Loyola Maryland and No. 4 Army will welcome No. 5 Bucknell in a pair of quarterfinal round games on Tuesday, Nov. 4 with the winners joining Colgate and the Terriers in the semifinals.

This is the tenth time Colgate has hosted the Patriot League Tournament, but the first at Beyer-Small ’76 Field which was christened in August. The Raiders have qualified for the field 22 times overall, including each of the last seven seasons.

Boston University earns the No. 2 seed for the second year in a row. The Terriers rode the two-spot to the title in 2013 — their first season as a member of the Patriot League. Navy makes the postseason for the fourth straight time, and 17th overall and Army trails only host Colgate with its 19th appearance.

Like Navy, Bucknell is in the Patriot League Tournament field for the 17th time while Loyola is making its first appearance in their second season as a member of the League.

The winners of the semifinal round matches on Friday will advance to the Patriot League Championship on Sunday, Nov. 9. The Patriot League Champion will receive the League’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
