CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — The Patriot League recognized the efforts of freshman right-handed pitcher Colin Brady from this past week as he was named the league’s Corvias Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Brady (Fr., Seneca, S.C.) gave Navy five important scoreless innings of scoreless relief this week with the biggest coming this past Sunday in the form of three shutout frames versus Bucknell in the 12th, 13th and 14th innings of game four. He earned the victory for the Mids as he held the Bison off the scoreboard and watched his teammates manufacture one run in the bottom of the 14th for the 6-5 win. The victory gave Navy its first four-game sweep of Bucknell since 1995.
He also hurled single scoreless innings of relief versus UMBC on Wednesday and Bucknell on Saturday. For the week, he pitched five innings and gave up three hits, while striking out three. After a rough start to his collegiate career, Brady has appeared in four straight games without allowing a run or more than one baserunner.
For Navy, this is the fifth Patriot League weekly award of the 2015 season as LHP Luke Gillingham is a three-time Pitcher of the Week honoree (Feb. 16, Feb. 23 and March 16) and RHP Stephen Moore took home the same pitching accolade on March 9.
Navy will be back in action on Wednesday with a mid-week home game versus Coppin State. First pitch between the Mids and Hawks is set for 3 p.m. at Max Bishop Stadium.
