Cook Named Corvias Offensive Player of the Week

March 30, 2015

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Junior Connor Cook recorded a career-high in goals and points against 20th-ranked Bucknell on Saturday in a 12-4 win and was voted the Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Cook tallied a career high in points, netting five goals and two assists in the victory over the Bison. He joins Cole Johnson as offensive player of the week honorees for the Black Knights and is the fifth Army player to earn a weekly honor from the Patriot League.

The junior recorded a hat trick in the first 20 minutes as Army raced to a 6-1 lead. Cook added single goals in the third and fourth quarters to set a new career best with five goals. Cook is second on the Black Knights with 22 goals and has scored a goal in 16-straight games, which is the fifth-longest active streak in the country. The five goals and seven points are a season-high for Army in a single game.

Senior Sam Somers made the honorable mention list after stopping 11 shots, including six in the first quarter of the game for his seventh win of the year. He leads the conference in goals against average (6.66) and save percentage (.575). Somers is in the top 10 nationally in both categories, is second in goals against average, and eighth in save percentage and has held opponents to under 10 goals in 19 of his last 21 starts.

The Black Knights moved up in the national polls this week. They are ranked 15th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches’ Poll and the Cascade/Maverik Media Poll. Army snuck back in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Poll to No. 19 in the nation.

Cook, Somers and the men’s lacrosse team are back at Michie Stadium for the first time in a couple of weeks to take on Boston University in a key Patriot League matchup. Tickets are still available for the 12 p.m. start on Saturday.
