Cross Country Competes At 2014 Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Patriot League Championships Saturday where the women finished eighth and the men were sixth. Leading the way for the Greyhounds Erica Canas who finished 41st and Alex Saffadi, who was 73rd.

Canas finished 41st out of 107 runners with a time of 22:14.10 to lead the way for the Greyhounds. Senior Anna Bosse was the second fastest female Greyhound to come across the finish line, taking 48th in 22:21.40.

Sophomore Sarah Askine and senior Kelly Maguire finished just outside the top-50, taking 56th and 59th, respectively. Askine recorded a time of 22:36.00, while Maguire clocked 22:40.00. Freshman Kendyl Fahmy was the final Greyhound to score, finishing 80th with a time of 23:40.30.

Saffadi placed 73rd in the men’s race, clocking a time of 26:19.00. Sophomore Chris Regan came in 77th in 25:25.10, while classmate Michael Michon finished 82nd with a time of 26:35.40. Sophomore Kevin Montgomery (89th, 26:54.20) and junior Christopher O’Brien (99th, 27:42.00) rounded out the point scorers for Loyola.

On the men’s side, the United States Naval Academy took the team title with 30 points, followed by Bucknell University with 76 points. Behind the Bison were the United States Military Academy (92), Boston University (97), American University (111), Lehigh University (111), College of the Holy Cross (210), Colgate University (258), Lafayette College (272) and Loyola (302).

Boston University finished first in the women’s 6k with a combined total of 52 points. Bucknell was close behind in second ending with 52 points, as well, followed by Army with 70. Navy (70), Holy Cross (130), Lehigh (136) and American (214) followed next in fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, before Loyola in eighth with 235 points. Lafayette (243) and Colgate (290) closed out the schools taking ninth and 10th place, respectively.

The Greyhounds return to action on Friday, Nov. 14, competing at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in State College, Pennsylvania.
