ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s cross country team will travel to Bethlehem, Pa., and the campus of Lehigh University for the Patriot League Championship this Saturday at 12 p.m.
The top finisher in the race earns the Runner of the Year Award, with the highest-finishing freshman deemed the Rookie of the Year. There will also be a Coach of the Year voted on by head coaches after the race. The top-seven finishers in meet earn first-team All-Patriot League status, and the next seven are second-team All-Patriot League finishers.
Navy took third place at last season’s championship, while Kelley Robinson finished fifth overall. Robinson will look to become Navy’s first individual champion since Annie-Norah Beveridge in 2012.
The Mids will look to take its momentum from the Star meet victory over Army into the Patriot League Championship. Robinson has been running at a high pace for Navy all season, finishing as Navy’s top runner in four of the five meets. Robinson won her first career individual title in the Star meet two weeks ago against Army.
Navy sits at number nine in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region Poll. The Mids ranking is the highest amongst Patriot League schools, as Bucknell and Lehigh sit 11th and 12th, respectively.
Navy will then race at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Friday, Nov. 14. The meet is held in University Park, Pennsylvania, hosted by Penn State, at 12 p.m.
