Dearth, Talkow Named to Preseason All-PL Team

Jan. 27, 2016

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Juniors Cal Dearth and Sam Talkow of the Boston University men’s lacrosse team were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, the conference announced on Wednesday.

This is the first time in the program’s three-year history that it boasts a preseason All-League selection. Dearth is one of three midfielders on the team while Talkow is the lone faceoff specialist. The duo, along with junior Christian Carson-Banister, were also named preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse in December.

Both Dearth and Talkow were All-League selections in 2015 and are poised for another strong season. Dearth collected 42 points in 19 goals and 23 assists out of the midfield last year, all of which were career highs. Dearth was also strong on the defensive side of the ball last year, causing six turnovers and gathering 23 ground balls.

Talkow was one of the top faceoff specialists in 2015, ranking fifth in the NCAA and first in the conference in faceoff percentage at .659 (191-of-290). He also led the Patriot League in ground balls per game (7.43) and scored a career-high nine goals.

BU was also selected to finish sixth in the preseason poll as voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors. The Terriers amassed 58 points, four clear of seventh-place Lehigh. If the preseason poll holds true, BU will qualify for postseason play for the first time.

Loyola Maryland earned 12 first-place votes and 122 points, with Navy (5) and Colgate (1) also earning top nods to finish second and third, respectively. Army (85 points) was fourth, followed by Bucknell (70). Holy Cross (29) and Lafayette (17) rounded out the poll.

The Terriers will begin the 2016 season on Feb. 6 when they host Providence at Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Season packages and individual tickets are now on sale.
