Elon trounces D-III Wesley 106-77

ELON, N.C. (AP) Tanner Sampson scored 22 points and Elon trounced Division III member Wesley 106-77 on Sunday.

Sampson, Elon’s career leader for 3-pointers made, was 5 of 11 beyond the arc. He grabbed nine rebounds and had six assists, two steals and three blocked shots. Dmitri Thompson and Steve Santa Ana both had 17 points while Dainan Swoope added 13 points. The Phoenix (6-3) shot over 52 percent and was 15 of 36 on 3-point attempts.

Jordan Johnson and Rasahn Brinkley both scored 19 points for Wesley. JW Lawson added 11 points and Wayne Lennon had 11 rebounds and seven steals.

Brinkley’s jumper gave Wesley an 11-8 lead early, but it’s the only lead the overmatched Wolverines enjoyed. A 16-4 run at the end of the first half – including pair of 3-pointers by Santa Ana – put Elon up 42-29 at intermission.

The lead surpassed the 20-point mark midway through the second on a 3 by Tyler Seibring.
