CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Patriot League football teams will hit the field in three months with a schedule that includes contests against three FBS opponents as well as variety of top FCS squads in non-League play before the race for the League title picks up later in the season.

The 2016 Patriot League Football Composite Schedule is now available as all seven teams have released their slates for the upcoming season. The year kicks off on the September 2 when Lafayette goes to Central Connecticut State and Colgate heads to Syracuse with the traditional opening Saturday one day later with Fordham at Navy, Bucknell at Marist, Holy Cross at Morgan State, Georgetown hosting Davidson and Lehigh welcoming Monmouth.

The Colgate-Syracuse and Fordham-Navy contests are two of three matchups against FBS-level squads in 2016. Lafayette will also visit Army West Point on Oct. 15.

Patriot League teams will face off with teams from seven different FCS conferences in 2016. Fourteen of the 31 non-League games against FCS squads will come against opponents from the Ivy League, with those matchups beginning on Sept. 17. Three Patriot League squads will face both Yale and Princeton, while a pair go up against Cornell, Penn and Harvard and one Patriot League team plays both Columbia and Dartmouth.

Six games are on the slate against opponents from the Colonial Athletic Association, with Lafayette at home for two of them as the Leopards welcome Delaware on Sept. 10 and Villanova on Sept. 24. Holy Cross also faces two CAA foes as it visits New Hampshire on Sept. 10 and Albany the next week on Sept. 17, while Lehigh is at Villanova on Sept. 10 and Colgate goes to Richmond, which finished at No. 3/4 in the country last season, on Sept. 24.

Bucknell gives the Patriot League a second game against a team that finished in the top-10 nationally last season when it heads to Charleston Southern, which came in at No. 6/7, on Oct. 29.

The Patriot League schedule begins on October 1 when Holy Cross visits Lafayette, and picks up with three games the next week when Colgate goes to Lehigh, Lafayette is at Fordham and Bucknell visits Holy Cross. Two more League games will be played on Oct. 15, with three League contests on each of the final five weeks of the season as the race for the title heats up.

Colgate returns as the defending Patriot League champion, with the Raiders then advancing to the national quarterfinals and finishing the season at No. 13 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 17 in the STATS FCS top 25. Fordham also made the postseason for the third straight year in 2015 and came in at No. 19 in both national polls as the Patriot League had a pair of playoff teams for the second time in three years.
