Jacksonville State beats Eastern Illinois 27-20

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) Darius Jackson returned a fourth-quarter interception for a touchdown, and Jacksonville State remained undefeated in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 27-20 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday.

Jackson’s touchdown made it 27-17 for the Gamecocks (9-1, 7-0) with 11:33 to play and the defense held EIU (5-6, 5-2) to a 20-yard field goal and two four-down possessions from there.

Eli Jenkins threw for 288 yards with a touchdown and 153 yards going to Josh Barge. Ruben Gonzalez added 113 yards receiving and DaMarcus James ran 26 times for 112 yards and a touchdown.

After Jacksonville State built a 20-7 halftime lead, the Panthers cut the deficit to 20-17 on Nick Bruno’s 41-yard field goal and Taylor Duncan’s 2-yard touchdown run.

Jalen Whitlow threw for 137 yards and ran for 78 and a touchdown, but threw two interceptions – both in the second half.
