Lakes leads Mercer to 56-0 rout over Warner

MACON, Ga. (AP) Alex Lakes ran for 113 yards and four touchdowns to lead Mercer to a 56-0 rout over Warner of the NAIA on Saturday.

John Russ connected with Chandler Curtis for a 78-yard touchdown pass 31 seconds into the game. Lakes then bullied in for scores from the 1 and 13 to make it 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. Another Lakes score from the 3, Russ’s 1-yard TD pass to Thomas Marcham, and Tee Mitchell’s 7-yard TD run gave the Bears a 42-0 halftime lead.

Lakes ran for a 2-yard score and Michael Haynes threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Eli Grambling to cap the scoring for Mercer (6-5).

Warner (6-5) was held to just 123 total yards. Darrin Davis Jr. was 8 of 15 for 86 yards and threw interceptions to Austin Barrett and Lendell Arnold. Lester Lewis had four catches for 59 yards for the Royals.
