CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland senior Maddy Lesher has been named the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for a second-straight week, as announced by the League office Monday.

Lesher led the Greyhounds to a 15-5 win over Holy Cross at Ridley Athletic Complex Saturday by tying a career-high seven caused turnovers and adding six ground balls, which was one shy of her personal best.

The Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, native also held Kaitlin Concilio, Holy Cross’ top attacker, scoreless, as Lesher limited Concilio to just one shot, despite her entering the contest averaging 2.5 points and 3.25 shots per game.

As a unit, Lesher anchored a defense that gave up just five goals and held its Patriot League foe to single digits for a 20th-straight time in a regular season game.

For the season, Lesher leads the Patriot League in ground balls (47), while her 3.92 per game average ranks third nationally. She also leads the League in caused turnovers (36) and ranks fourth in the NCAA with 3.00 caused turnovers per game.

This is Lesher’s third weekly honor this season, while its her sixth career weekly award and fifth from the Patriot League.

Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Lehigh in the second game of a lacrosse doubleheader. The Greyhounds’ men’s team will face Boston University at noon, followed by the women’s game at 3 p.m.
