CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland junior Maddy Lesher has been named the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, as announced by the league office Monday.

Lesher anchored the Greyhounds’ defense in a 2-0 week last week, as Loyola picked up a midweek win over Georgetown, 12-8, and a road win over Holy Cross, 13-8, on Saturday. For the week, the Gladwyne, Pennsylvania native had eight ground balls, seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Against Georgetown, Lesher had three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. She followed that up by tying career-highs in ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (3) at Holy Cross, while she also won a personal-best five draw controls vs. the Crusaders.

In Patriot League games, Lesher leads the league in ground balls per game (3.25) and is second in caused turnovers per game (1.75). For the season, she has a team-best 27 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.

This marks the second career weekly award for Lesher.

Loyola will step out of conference play for its next game, as it travels to Towson Wednesday for a 7 p.m., matchup.
