ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The #23 Navy men’s soccer team (10-4-3, 5-1-1) will play at Loyola (5-7-3, 2-4-1 PL) on Saturday evening at 7:00 PM at the Ridley Sports Complex. Live statistics and free live video will be available. Navy enters the contest unbeaten in its last eight games with a 6-0-2 record.
Navy clinched a berth in the Patriot League postseason tournament with its 1-1 draw at Lehigh on Wednesday. Boston U. is currently in first place with 19 points, Navy is in second with 16 points and American is third with 13 points. Navy’s final two league games are at Loyola on Saturday and then against Army at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. on November 7.
After Navy gave up a goal in the 53rd minute at Lehigh, but sophomore forward Sam Bascom responded with a highlight-reel goal four minutes later to even the score at 1-1.
Loyola is coming off a 1-0 loss at American on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles scored in the 89th minute to sink the Greyhounds.
Loyola is currently tied for seventh in the league standings at seven points with Holy Cross and Colgate.
Loyola has been outscored 17-11 by its opponents this season. Connor Thompson and Joseph Cahalan share the team-lead in scoring with three goals each. Goalkeeper Matt Sanchez is 5-7-3 with a 1.07 goals-against average and a .782 save percentage.
Navy is led in scoring by junior forward Jamie Dubyoski and his 23 points on nine goals and five assists. Junior forward Thomas Shiiba is second with 12 points on three goals and six assists and senior Geoff Fries has 10 points on three goals and four assists.
Goalkeeper Jackson Morgan is 9-3-3 with a 0.66 goals-against average, an .825 save percentage and six shutouts.
Navy leads the Patriot League in goals per game (1.65) while ranking second in goals-against average (0.73).
Army and Navy will be playing at PPL Park for the third straight season on November 7. Over 7,000 fans watched Navy earn a 1-0 double-overtime win over the Black Knights last season. The game will be televised on the American Sports Network. Fans can purchase tickets at comcasttix.com.
