COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Lafayette junior co-captain Amanda Magadan was one of 18 players selected to represent the United States at the Junior Women’s Pan American Field Hockey Championship this spring. Roster selections were announced by USA Field Hockey earlier this week.
The tournament will take place in Tacarigua, Trinidad and Tobago from March 30 – April 10. Team USA is in a group which includes Canada, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela, with a total of nine countries competing for a gold medal.
“I am ecstatic to get the opportunity to compete in an international tournament representing the USA,” Magadan said. “I’ve competed previously in friendly series against Dutch, British, Canadian and Japanese teams, but getting the opportunity to play in an organized tournament is something different. It adds a new level of intensity. There is something to be lost and gained in this playing arena.
“I am very proud and honored to be one of the 18 selected to travel abroad and look forward to my time in Trinidad and Tobago. I am hopeful that my teammates and I will put on our best performance and bring a medal back to the states.”
Magadan, who was a unanimous First-Team All-Patriot League and First-Team All-Mideast Region performer last fall, was first named to the U-21 national team last February. She registered 10 goals and five assists in 2015, leading the Leopards with 25 points.
“Amanda has been very focused and concentrated on the potential of this tournament for some time now,” Lafayette head coach Jennifer Stone said. “For her to be selected to represent America in the Junior Pan-American Games is quite an honor, especially following the senior squad’s Pan-American title last summer. For this to happen in an Olympic year is also nothing short of exhilarating. It’s an exciting time for anyone involved in USA Hockey.”
