Memphis athletic director Tom Bowen gets 2-year extension

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Memphis athletic director Tom Bowen has received a two-year contract extension.

The school announced Bowen’s extension Thursday. His contract now runs through at least June 30, 2019.

Bowen was hired as Memphis’ athletic director in 2012. During his tenure, Memphis became a charter member of the American Athletic Conference. Memphis’ football team won a share of its first conference title in 40 years and went 10-3 with a Miami Beach Bowl victory last season.

Before coming to Memphis, Bowen was San Jose State’s athletic director from 2004-12.
