Men’s Cross Country Travels To West Point for Star Meet

Oct. 15, 2015

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men’s cross country team will look to continue its strong run in 2015 with a Star Meet competition against service academy rival Army West Point on Friday at West Point, New York (4:45 PM).

Navy will look to build upon last seasons dominating 16-47 victory over Army. The Mids tallied nine of the first 10 runners across the finish line, including the first three Navy runners finishing within 0:01.3 seconds of one another. Seniors Sam Peckham (Valencia, Calif.) and Steve Schroeder (Monticello, Ill.) placed second and third in last season’s race with times of 24:44.18 and 24:44.94, respectively.

Schroeder has consistently ran well for Navy against Army, finishing in the top five in the previous three races. The Monticello, Illinois, native’s best finish was at West Point in 2013, placing second with a mark of 24:36.82.

Head coach Al Cantello is 35-10-1 all-time versus the Black Knights and has won three of the last five dual meets in West Point.

Navy is ranked fifth in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional poll for the fourth-straight week. The Mids finished ahead of regional foe Penn at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 2.

Following Friday’s Star Meet, Navy will have an extra week to prepare for the Patriot League Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31, which is hosted by Colgate.
