Men’s Track and Field Competes at the Point Loma Invitational on Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men’s track and field team will wrap up its spring break with the Point Loma Invitational, hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University, on Saturday at the PLNU Track and Field.

The meet will begin with the field events (hammer, javelin and high jump) at 12 p.m. (EST) and follow with 3,000-meter steeplechase as the first field event, beginning at 3:20 p.m.

Navy opened the outdoor season with a first-place finish at the UCSD Collegiate Challenge last Saturday in San Diego, California. The Mids recorded nine individual first-place performances.

In the field events, Navy racked up six first-place marks. The Mids tallied top-two finishes in three of the four throwing events. Sophomore John Campbell (Amarillo, Texas) recorded top-two performances in the hammer throw, shot put and discus. Campbell won the discus with a throw of 172ft-8in (52.63m) and then placed second in both the hammer (171ft-6in; 52.29m) and shot put (50ft-8in; 15.44m).

Senior Billy Grammer (Heber Springs, Ark.) placed first in the hammer with a toss of 182ft-3in (55.57m). Junior Griffie Loy (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) won the shot put (55ft-0.25in; 16.77m) and finished second in the discus with a mark of 180ft-0in (47.86m)

Senior outdoor captain Jay Stell (Carlsbad, N.M.) captured the individual title in the javelin with a throw of 219ft-0in (67.01m).

Junior Khaalif Wolfe (Mechanicsburg, Pa) and senior Jiles Maness (Winston Salem, N.C.) won the triple jump and pole vault, respectively. Wolfe captured first in the triple jump with a mark of 49ft-8.25in (15.14m) while Maness placed first in the pole vault at 16ft-9.25in (5.11m).

Following Saturday’s meet, Navy will return to the East Coast to host its home spring invitational on Saturday, March 26 at Ingram Field.
