Men’s Track and Field Records a Patriot League-Best 42 on Honor Roll

June 19, 2015

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Of the 247 Patriot League men’s track and field student athletes recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, Navy recorded a league-high 42, which was announced by the league office on Friday.

Recent graduate Tom Buffone (Freehold, N.J.) headlines the team’s academic honor roll nominees. Buffone graduated as the Naval Academy’s valedictorian with a 4.0 grade-point average in physics. Buffone was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men’s indoor and outdoor track and field. He also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District II honors.

Alongside Buffone, recent graduate Matthew Deisher was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the fourth-straight year. Deisher graduated as an ocean engineering major.

Nine student-athletes achieved 4.00 grade-point averages during the spring semester with Buffone and Deisher leading the group. Rising seniors Jeremy Jones and Billy Walker, rising juniors Chris Evans and Ryan Speir, rising sophomores Nate Arellano, Bryson Kasper and David Liedtka also achieved 4.0 GPAs this past spring at the Academy.

Student-athletes needed a grade-point average of at least 3.20 during the 2015 spring semester and be a member of the track and field team during the indoor or outdoor season to earn a spot on the academic honor roll.
