ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Looking to continue its dominance over its archrival, the Navy men’s track and field team will look for its fifth-straight outdoor star victory and 10th win in a row overall against Army West Point on Saturday at Shea Stadium. Saturday’s men’s meet, which will run alongside the women’s meet, will begin at 11:45 a.m. with the javelin.
Live statistics will available on navysports.com.
Navy owns a 45-44 lead over Army in the all-time series, while the Black Knights hold a slight edge, 23-22, in West Point, New York. The Mids last two outdoor victories have been decided by 30 points or more with the last meeting in favor of Navy, 115-85, in Annapolis.
Senior Austin Batiste will look to reach a rare feat in the Army-Navy series on Saturday as he aims to capture not only his fourth-straight outdoor 400-meter dash title but his eighth title in the event overall. Along with Batiste, teammates Jay Stell (javelin), Griffie Loy (shot put) and Khaalif Wolfe (triple jump) all look for their third consecutive title in their respective events.
Navy took care of business at the indoor meet, recording 13 first-place finishes out of 17 events and 31 IC4A-qualifying performances.
On the track, senior Austin Batiste (Long Beach, Calif.) broke the field house record in the 400-meter dash (47.44). Batiste’s first-place time broke UNC’s Clayton Parros’ record of 47.56, which he set on Jan. 28, 2012. Senior Jordan Sartor-Francis (Joensboro, Ga.) took down his own program record in the 60-meter dash, shaving off 0.09 seconds for first-place at 6.73. Freshman Kordell Williams tied former midshipman Adesina Ekundayo’s program record in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the tape in first at 8.07.
In the field events, sophomore John Campbell (Amarillo, Texas) recorded two personal-best marks to help grab seven points in the throwing events. Campbell placed first in the weight throw at 61ft-10in (18.86m) and finished third in the shot put at 55ft-0in (16.76m). Teammate Griffie Loy (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) grabbed the individual title in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 56ft-8in (17.27m).
