Navy has Four Named to All-Patriot League Rowing Teams

May 18, 2016

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – In recognition of its conference championship, the Navy women’s rowing team earned four All-Patriot League selections as announced on Wednesday by the league office. Juniors Julia Arthur (Arlington, Va.) and Miranda Kosmides (Hightstown, N.J.) represented Navy’s first varsity eight crew on All-Patriot League First Team, while sophomore Maeve Broeg (Williamsburg, Iowa) and senior coxswain Alexandria Switzer (San Antonio, Texas) claimed spots on the second team.

All four athletes are first-time honorees. The quartet led a quick re-loading project for first-year head coach Joe Schlosberg, as the Navy program had to replace a 2015 senior class that had six All-Patriot League honorees, including three, who also were named to the CRCA All-Region team last June.

Navy’s varsity eight went 4-0 this season in head-to-head bouts with victories over Temple, George Washington and MIT twice. The Mids also tested themselves in highly regarded national regattas, such as the Doc Hosea Invitational in Saratoga, N.Y. and the Dale England Cup in Bloomington, Ind.

Navy scored 49 points to claim the 2016 Patriot League Rowing championship last Friday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.. The Mids won the varsity four race and came in second in both the first and second varsity eight competitions on their way to claiming the fourth league title in program history.

As the Patriot League champion, Navy automatically qualified for the NCAA Rowing Championships, which will begin on Friday, May 27 in Sacramento, Calif. at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.
