North Texas takes out Charlotte 80-77

DENTON, Texas (AP) Eric Katenda scored 20 points and Deckie Johnson and J-Mychal Reese added 19 apiece as North Texas beat Charlotte 80-77 on Saturday night.

Joseph Uchebo led Charlotte (13-18, 9-9 Conference USA) with 23 points and 19 rebounds.

Ja’Michael Brown hit a 3 to put the Mean Green up 76-71 with 3:58 to go. Charlotte had layups from Anthony Vanhook and Jon Davis to pull within a point. Johnson then made two free throws, and Vanhook made another layup to cap the scoring for the 49ers.

Katenda made two free throws with six seconds remaining, and Andrien White missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

North Texas (12-19, 7-11) shot 30 for 62 from the field (48.4 percent) and Charlotte was 30 for 68 for 44-percent shooting. The Mean Green had the edge from behind the 3-point arc seven to four.
