Texas-Pan American beats Wayland Baptist 88-80

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) Janari Joesaar scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Friday night to lead Texas-Pan American to an 88-80 comeback win over NAIA Wayland Baptist.

Shaquille Hines scored 15 points for the Broncs, Moe McDonald 14, Shaun Noriega 13, and Andreas Biqum 11.

Robert Waters scored 20 points for Wayland Baptist, Royal Crouch added 18 and Bunja Yaboe grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers out-rebounded the Broncs 43-41, but shot 41.9 percent from the field to Texas-Pan American’s 50.8 percent.

A layup by McDonald capped the Broncs’ 9-0 opening run, but the Pioneers clawed back to lead 20-19 on a layup by Jordan Johnson and held on for a 34-33 halftime lead on a layup by Morris Mitchell.

The lead traded hands three times in the second half before Joesaar hit a layup and free throw to spark a 7-0 run, and the Broncs pulled away on runs of 8-0 and 7-0.
