Van Veltzer Advances At UTR Boston Open

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – – Senior Alex Van Velzer advanced to the semifinal round of B Flight at the UTR Boston Open Friday afternoon hosted by Harvard University at the Murr Tennis Center.

After receiving an opening-round bye in the 32 field in the Main Draw of B Flight, Van Velzer downed Andrea Arnaboldi, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (6) to advance to the next round where he takes on fourth-seeded Henry Steer of Harvard.

Rounding out Army’s contingent were Michael Nguyen at the Flight B Draw, along with Grant Riechmann and Sam Lampman in Flight A Draw.

Lampman fell in straight sets to Harvard’s Alex Steinroeder, 6-4, 6-1, and Reichmann lost 6-2, 6-4 to Dartmouth’s Siego Pedraza.

Nguyen, who received an opening-round bye in B Flight, lost in the second round to Joseph Haig, 6-4, 6-1.

The tournament is the final of the fall for the Army men’s tennis team.
