W. Soccer. Miller’s Goal Gives WSOC, 1-0, Win Over Boston U.

Oct. 18, 2014BALTIMORE – Junior Charlotte Miller scored the game-winning goal in the 47th minute to get the Loyola University Maryland women’s soccer team its first Patriot League win of the season, a 1-0 decision over Boston University Saturday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Sophomore Morgan Crable used a throw in to set up Miller 20-yards out. The junior forward took a right-footed shot that sailed over the head of the Terriers’ goalkeeper and into the top right corner of the goal.

Loyola (5-8-2, 1-3-2 Patriot League) had an opportunity to add to its lead in the 79th minute when sophomore Cara Connolly took an open shot just outside the box. The attempt sailed above the crossbar and the score remained 1-0.

Both teams combined for only 10 shots, all-coming in the final 45 minutes.

Boston University (9-4-3, 3-1-2), the 2013 Patriot League Champion and NCAA College Cup Second Round participant, recorded its first Patriot League loss of the season, despite outshooting the Greyhounds 8-2.

Colleen Folan played all 90 minutes in goal for Loyola, making two saves. The senior captain recorded her seventh clean sheet of the season.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to American University in a 3 p.m., contest.
