White with 2 TDs as Norfolk St. tops Hampton 21-13

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) Norfolk State’s Terrance Ervin passed for 335 yards and three touchdowns, including a pair to Isaac White, as the Spartans fended off Hampton 21-13 on Saturday.

The Spartans (3-5, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic) grabbed a 14-10 lead just 43 seconds before halftime when Ervin hit White from the 12. Hampton (1-6, 0-3) closed to 14-13 on Anthony Prevost’s 39-yard field goal.

But Ervin once more hooked up with White, this time from 30. White finished with 10 catches for a career-high 150 yards. Ervin passed for 78 of the 80 yards on the game-clinching, eight-play final-quarter drive.

Norfolk State compiled 337 yards total offense – all but two through the air. Two Hampton quarterbacks combined for 109 yards passing

Hampton was driving after White’s second TD, but stalled on downs with 43 seconds left as Darrin Marrow broke up a fourth-down pass.

Norfolk State leads the longstanding cross-bay series 26-25-1.
