Women’s Basketball Drops Season Opener at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Army women’s basketball team struggled from field and was unable to overcome a 50.9-percent shooting day from host Quinnipiac as the Black Knights fell to the Bobcats, 79-64, in their season opener on Saturday afternoon at TD Bank Sports Center.

Junior Kelsey Minato led Army with 18 points to include a 6-of-7 showing from the free-throw line, while classmate Brianna Johnson matched her career high with 13 points while knocking down a career-best nine free throws on 12 attempts.

Quinnipiac was led by seniors Nikoline Ostergaard and Samantha Guastella, who chipped in 18 points and 15 points, respectively. Ostergaard added a game-high eight rebounds, helping the Bobcats control a 47-29 advantage on the boards.

The Black Knights shot 74.2 percent (23-for-31) from the foul line on the afternoon, but managed just 34.5 percent (19-of-55) from the floor, including a 3-for-18 showing from long range.
