ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s track and field squad aims for back-to-back outdoor star meet victories over archrival Army West Point on Saturday at Shea Stadium. Saturday’s meet starts at 11 a.m. with the pole vault and hammer throw.
Live statistics will available on navysports.com.
Navy holds a 15-14 lead in the all-time series over Army and is 3-2 in the last five meetings in West Point, New York. The Mids and the Black Knights last meeting came down to the final event as Navy edged Army, 101-99.
With the meet down to the final event of the 4x400m relay, Army led Navy, 99-96. After the first two legs of each relay squad completeing their laps, Navy’s third leg held a slight lead going in to the first turn. As Army’s third leg began the first turn, the runner crossed over into the wrong lane and forced the judge of that turn to throw up the yellow flag, which indicated a lane violation. Despite Army finishing first in the race, the Black Knights received a disqualification of the race and Navy was awarded the full five points to capture the meet.
Navy tallied five events with 1-2 finishes, three on the track and two in the field.
Senior Crystan McLymore aims for her fourth-straight outdoor triple jump individual crown. Mclymore has improved on her mark in each meet since her freshman season. She went from recording a 37ft-3.25in (11.36m) her freshman campaign to 39ft-8.5in (12.01m) last season.
Senior Meghan Harvey will look to collect her third individual title in the 1,500-meter run in four tries. Harvey has slashed over nine seconds from her first Army-Navy competition, tallying a first-place time of 4:47.99 during her freshman season to 4:38.11 in last year’s meet. The senior mid-distance runner placed second her sophomore season, crossing the finish line at 4:40,46.
Following Saturday’s Army-Navy Star Meet, Navy will compete in the Towson Invitational on Friday, April 8.
