Five-star outside linebacker VanDarius Cowan, who flipped from Florida State to Alabama, spoke with Campus Insiders about his plans for the Crimson Tide.
VanDarius Cowan’s visit to Tuscaloosa, Ala. over the weekend couldn’t have gone any better — for him or the Crimson Tide.
The 5-star recruit flipped his commitment from Florida State to Alabama, giving the Tide eight commitments in the 2017 class.
In the 2016 cycle, Nick Saban signed the No. 1 inside linebacker, Ben Davis, and the No. 2 inside linebacker, Lyndell Wilson.
Cowan is the No. 2 outside linebacker and No. 22 overall recruit in the 2017 class. While he hasn’t talked to Davis or Wilson, he’s planning on keeping the influx of talent coming by doing some recruiting of his own for arguably the greatest college football coach ever.
“I’m recruiting well,” Cowan told Campus Insiders. “I’ve been recruiting for my class, and he is Nick Saban. He only wants the best.”
When asked whom exactly he was recruiting, Cowan played it like a veteran, refusing to divulge his personal list of prospects.
Although, he maintained a level of confidence befitting of an Alabama commit.
“[I’m] not gonna say,” Cowan said with a laugh. “But just know, I’m flipping a couple more people.”
Saban is fresh off winning his fifth national championship and fourth with the Crimson Tide. Alabama is already a hotbed for football stars, so the need for Cowan to recruit players with him may not be a necessity, but it is most certainly welcomed.
Regardless of who joins him, Cowan knows what the goal is once he hits the field in Tuscaloosa.
“To win, win and win some more,” he said. “[I want] to build bonds with the town.”
There are months still left to fly off the calendar before National Signing Day, but Cowan gets a jumpstart on building that bond with T-Town as Alabama’s 5-star, unofficial lobbyist.
