Three-star tight end Cade Brewer flipped his commitment from the SMU Mustangs to the Texas Longhorns on Friday afternoon.
On Friday, Texas recruits were lighting up social media, hooting and hollering about some new commitments to the class. Not long after the early celebrations, tight end Cade Brewer gave a little more clarification to things.
A 3-star recruit out of Austin, Brewer flipped his commitment from SMU to his hometown Texas Longhorns, offering the following statement via social media.
“This has been a very difficult decision. I have family that plays for SMU and one of my best friend is gonna be there. I have a family friend that is the head coach at SMU who I know is outstanding person. From beginning, my parents preached that this was a forty year decision and not jsut a four year decision. I first thought they were talking about academics which SMU is outstanding, but I think it is more. I grew up a Longhorn, and I want to still be a Longhorn forty years from now. I am officially committing to the University of Texas!! #HookEm [sic]”
Brewer is the first tight end recruit in Tom Herman’s inaugural cycle with the Longhorns. He also puts the bow on a nice run up to the holidays for the program. Earlier this week, 4-star running back Toneil Carter flipped his commitment from the Georgia Bulldogs to the Longhorns.
Also occurring on Friday, 3-star outside linebacker Marqez Bimage decommitted from Houston and figures to be the next player to follow Herman to Austin.
