Temple is set to take on Wake Forest in the Military Bowl, so here are some storylines and predictions for the Owls ahead of the game.
Temple is coming off a dominant win in the American Athletic Conference Championship, defeating Navy 34-10. The Owls have won 10 games for the second year in a row, and are looking to win 11 games for the first time in the program’s history as they take on Wake Forest.
Here are five thoughts and predictions as the Owls take on the Demon Deacons in the Military Bowl on December 27.
The Owls have two running backs in Jahad Thomas and Ryquell Armstead that have combined for 27 touchdowns and 1,836 (both have 918) yards on the ground. This ambush will continue against a Wake team that gives up 155.92 yards per game on the ground. Look for at least one, if not both, backs to reach the 1,000-yard mark.
If there is one knock on quarterback Phillip Walker, it is his tendency to throw interceptions. Walker has been picked off 12 times this season, while the Demon Deacons average close to one pick per game. Walker has to be careful with the ball for the Owls to win.
There Will Be Jokes
What has occurred at Wake Forest, with the former assistant coach giving detailed game plans to Wake opponents, is not a laughing matter, you can put money on one of the announcers making a gag about it if Temple happens to bust up one of the Deacs’ offensive plays.
Will Rhule Be Missed?
Let’s face it: it is always a tough situation when a coach leaves a team before their bowl game for another job, and you never know how the players will react. Will the Owls come out fired up, or will they mail it in? That could be a huge factor.
Temple’s Defense Will Be Lights Out
There is a major reason the Owls are 10-3, and the defense is it. This unit allows only 17.2 points per game, good for 7th in the nation. Wake’s offense has struggled all season, scoring just 19.3 points per outing. That doesn’t bode well for the Demon Deacons.
