Air Force vs. Wyoming prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins Saturday night’s matchup between the Falcons and Cowboys.

When: Saturday, Oct. 8 – 3:30 p.m. ET
Where: War Memorial Stadium, Laramie, Wyoming

The Falcons are still flying high after last weekend’s 28-14 rout of Navy, and sit unbeaten at 4-0. Air Force’s other three wins came at home versus Abilene Christian and Georgia State and on the road at Utah State. In the win against Navy, the Falcons piled 14 points in the third quarter and tacked on 11 more in the fourth quarter to stave off a comeback attempt by the Midshipmen.

If patterns mean anything to the Cowboys, they’re going to lose this game. It’s a good thing that’s not the case for Craig Bohl’s squad. Wyoming enters this game at 3-2 and alternated each week with its wins and losses. After falling to Eastern Michigan on the road two weeks ago, the Cowboys visited Colorado State and took down the Rams, 38-17, last weekend.

The Falcons took last season’s meeting, 31-17, at home, but the Cowboys had taken the two meetings prior to that. Air Force leads the all-time series with Wyoming, 28-23-3.

What To Know About Air Force

Quarterback Nate Romine was the star for the Falcons against Navy last week. He completed 8-of-14 passes for 257 yards with two touchdowns. Those two scoring throws ended up in the hands of Jalen Robinette and Timothy McVey. That 62-yard touchdown was McVey’s only grab in the game, but Robinette hauled in five catches for 163 yards.

Jacobi Owens and D.J. Johnson shared the backfield duties with Shayne Davern. The trio combined for 154 yards on 38 carries, and it was Owens who led the group with 63 rushing yards on 15 carries.

What to Know About Wyoming

Brian Hill helped lead the way for the Cowboys in their win over Colorado State. He rushed for 166 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. While he was averaging 8.7 yards per carry, Shaun Wick added 54 rushing yards and  score of his own. Quarterback Josh Allen also ran for 55 yards and  touchdown on 10 carries. But Allen also did work with his arm. He wasn’t asked to do a lot, but he did enough from the pocket. Allen completed 7-of-18 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown to Tanner Gentry, who ended up with three catches for 91 yards.

Defensively, Andrew Wingard stood out with 17 total tackles, 10 of which were solo. Chase Appleby picked off CSU quarterback Colin Hill and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown. And Marcus Epps recorded nine tackles while forcing and recovering a fumble.

Both Hill and Wick are expected to play despite injuries.

Advantages

Offense: Air Force – The Falcons’ rushing attack is slightly better, and while Romine isn’t a great passer, he doesn’t turn the ball over as much as Allen does.

Defense: Air Force – The edge goes to the Falcons, who are allowing 311.3 yards per game to opposing teams, which ranks them at No. 17 in total defense.

Special Teams: Air Force – Luke Strebel has not missed a kick this year, unlike Wyoming’s Cooper Rothe who is 6-for-11 on the season. The nod goes to Air Force.

Coaching: Air Force – Troy Calhoun is doing a great job right now. He just led his team to a win over a previously unbeaten Navy team, and the Falcons are clicking.

Matchup To Watch

Nate Romine vs. Josh Allen

Both teams are going to run the ball a lot, and both will find the end zone by doing so. The key is going to come down to Romine and Allen. One of them will have to step up and deliver big passes at some point. Allen seems more poised to do so, but he has seven touchdowns to six interceptions this year while Romine has yet to be picked off. Protect the ball at all costs. That’s what matters here.

Betting Odds

Spread: Air Force -10.5
Over/Under: 52

Air Force vs. Wyoming Prediction

Calhoun is going to tell his guys to run, run, run, and run some more. The last thing he wants to do is to put Romine in a position where he has to move defensive backs with his eyes and make multiple reads. This is going to be a quick, efficient task for the Falcons. They’re going to let Owens do his thing, and both Johnson and Davern will be there to supplement him. Romine will add yardage here and there, but it will be that three-headed backfield that does most of the work. Allen and Hill will help keep Wyoming in it, but Allen will get picked off again this weekend, and that flipped field will be the biggest difference in this game.

Air Force vs. Wyoming Score Prediction: Air Force 28, Wyoming 17
