4-Star CB Asante Samuel Jr. Choosing Between Florida State, Miami

Four-star cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. revealed his commitment date and will be choosing between the Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes.

Rivalries have a tendency to make college football way more fun than it already is, and the Florida State-Miami rivalry is never without excitement.

Their most recent chapter comes on the recruiting trail, though.

On Sunday afternoon, 4-star prospect Asante Samuel Jr. announced he will be deciding between the Seminoles and Hurricanes and will make his college commitment on Thursday.

Samuel, the son of former UCF Knight and NFL star Asante Samuel, is ranked as the No. 30 cornerback in the country and the No. 8 cornerback in the state of Florida.

When Samuel revealed his top five schools on March 8, FSU and Miami were joined by Alabama, LSU and Ohio State. Unfortunately for the Crimson Tide, Tigers and Buckeyes, though, they were eliminated from contention over the past month.

FSU is the clear favorite to land his commitment. He named the ‘Noles as his leader on Feb. 28 and took an unofficial visit to Tallahassee earlier this month.

However, fewer teams have had as much momentum as the ‘Canes have built up early on in the 2018 recruiting class. Miami has landed three commitments within the last two weeks and is currently ranked at No. 1 in the class rankings.

And Mark Richt’s team is the hometown team, as Samuel resides in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and attends St. Thomas Aquinas High School. The 4-star cornerback visited Coral Gables on Feb. 18 for the Hurricanes’ junior day.

Still, when he goes public with his commitment on Thursday, expect Florida State to be the choice.
