Baylor Hires Matt Lubick As Co-Offensive Coordinator

Baylor has hired Matt Lubick as its co-offensive coordinator, just 10 days after Lubick had agreed to become wide receiver coach at Ole Miss.


Matt Lubick wasn’t in Oxford long enough to decorate his office, let alone get to know all of the Ole Miss players and staff.

Lubick, who had joined the Rebels coaching staff just 10 days ago as wide receivers coach has agreed to become co-offensive coordinator at Baylor under new head coach Matt Rhule. Per Ben Garrett of OMSpirit (Scout.com), the Bears offered Lubick twice the salary as he would be making at Ole Miss and gave him a bigger role in the offense as a co-coordinator.

Known as one of the game’s top recruiters, Lubick spent the last four seasons as wide receiver coach, and was the Ducks’ offensive coordinator this season. While at Duke in 2012, Lubick was named Wide Receiver Coach of the Year.

Lubick had a history with the Rebels, spending time as an assistant for Ole Miss in 2005-06 under current LSU head coach Ed Orgeron. Previous stops at Colorado State, Cal State Northridge, San Jose State, Oregon State, and Arizona State fill out his current resume.

At Baylor, Lubick will join Jeff Nixon, recently of the San Francisco 49ers, to form the duo in charge of the Bears offense. The program is still trying to overcome a major coaching overhaul since former head coach Art Briles was fired, and recovering from a season where the Bears started 6-0 but lost their last six before ending the season with a win over Boise State in the Cactus Bowl.
