Big 12 bowl tie-ins, as well selection criteria for each of the conference’s college football bowl games.

The 2015-16 Postseason was a rocky one for the Big 12, as the conference’s teams were either involved in nail-biters—such as West Virginia’s one point win—or on the wrong end of blowouts—like Texas Tech’s 29-point loss to LSU. The disappointment for the Big 12 was epitomized by Oklahoma’s poor showing in the College Football Playoff semifinal as the Sooners suffered a second consecutive postseason blow-out loss to Clemson.

As for 2016, like all other Power 5 teams, the Big 12 is guaranteed a spot in one of the New Year’s Six bowls. The Big 12 champ this year will be automatically slotted into the Sugar Bowl, unless they qualify for the CFP, at which point the Sugar Bowl will have its pick of the remaining Big 12 teams.

For the remainder of its bowl slots, the Big 12 uses a true hierarchy to determine the selection order for its other six bowls. The Valero Alamo Bowl has the first pick once the Big 12 champ has been placed, and is followed by the Russell Athletic Bowl, Texas Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Cactus Bowl and Armed Forces Bowl—in that order.

Below is full schedule of bowl games with Big 12 tie-ins. For the purpose of this article “Big 12 No. 1” will signify the first selection slot after the Big 12 Champ.
