Big 12 rankings heading into Week 14 of the 2016 season. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State had a bye heading into next week’s huge showdown in Norman.

The biggest news off the field this weekend was Texas firing Charlie Strong and replacing him with Houston’s Tom Herman, who takes on the unenviable task of bringing the Longhorns back to national prominence extremely quickly to please an impatient fan base and group of boosters.

Nothing on the field in the Big 12 affected the conference championship picture, and Oklahoma and Oklahoma State had the week off ahead of their Bedlam Rivalry showdown next week.

Now that the games have been played, here’s a look at how the Big 12 teams rank heading into Week 14 of the season.

Week 14 Big 12 Football Rankings

10. Kansas (Last Week – 10)

The highlight of the Jayhawks’ season was two weeks ago, when it beat Texas in overtime and helped signal the beginning of the end for Charlie Strong. They end the year 2-10 after Saturday’s loss to Kansas State.

9. Iowa State (8)

Matt Campbell’s first season didn’t go as planned. The Cyclones finished the season 3-9 with a loss to West Virginia on Saturday.

8. Texas Tech (9)

Extremely disappointing season for Kliff Kingsbury and the Red Raiders after a solid start. They ended on a positive note, though, beating Baylor on Friday to finish 5-7.

7. Texas (7)

Strong just couldn’t get the Longhorns back to a bowl game and lost his final contest as Texas coach, 31-9, to TCU. His official firing came Saturday after Friday’s emotional postgame press conference. The Longhorns begin anew with Houston’s Tom Herman accepting the job.

6. Baylor (6)

From 6-0 to 6-5. The Bears, once the conference’s best chance to participate in the College Football Playoff, completely fell apart down the stretch and will try to end their losing streak when they visit West Virginia next week.

5. TCU (5)

The Horned Frogs moved to 6-5 with the win at Texas, but that’s far from where they thought they’d be after beginning the season with CFP expectations. They end the regular season next week at home against Kansas State.

4. Kansas State (4)

The Wildcats have a shot at an eight-win season following their win over rival Kansas. They’ve won four of their last five games following a tough 3-3 start.

3. West Virginia (3)

The Mountaineers bounced back from their four-touchdown loss to Oklahoma by routing Iowa State. They can reach 10 wins for the first time since 2011 with a win over Baylor next week.

2. Oklahoma State (2)

The controversial loss to Central Michigan is the reason Oklahoma State won’t be playing for a chance to reach the College Football Playoff next week. A major bowl bid still will be in the cards if it can knock off the Sooners and take home the Big 12 championship.

1. Oklahoma (1)

Oklahoma’s losses to Houston and Ohio State early in the season cost it a chance to get back to the CFP, unless it gets a whole lot of help during Championship Weekend. The Sooners are going to have a tough time with the Cowboys, though.
