Big 12 football standings for Week 14 of the season. The Wizard pulled a rabbit out of the hat for the 200th time in his illustrious career.
Coaches were the story of Big 12 football this past weekend. On the high side, Billy Snyder’s Kansas State Wildcats defeated in-state rival Kansas, 34-19, on Saturday. The victory was No. 200 in Snyder’s career, and players ceremoniously carried their coach off the field. On the low side, Texas’ 31-9 defeat at the hands of TCU on Friday effectively sealed Charlie Strong’s fate with the program. In less than 24 hours, the Longhorns dropped the season finale, fired Strong and hired Houston’s Tom Herman to be the new head football coach.
Elsewhere, Texas Tech played its best defense in over a month (while still employing its lethal offensive attack) to flatten Baylor, 54-35. And West Virginia traveled to Ames and put a whooping on Matt Campbell’s Cyclones, 49-19.
Looking ahead, the Big 12 title will be decided in Norman on December 3. Both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State shook off a pair of early losses to climb the rankings and position themselves for the division. Should the Sooners win, it’d mean they ran the table in conference play – something that would at least give the CFP committee reason for pause, given their preference of conference titles and touch out-of-conference schedules. The Cowboys also make for an interesting team, given that officials are on the record stating that the loss to Central Michigan happened because of a blown call.
