Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh received a public reprimand from the Big Ten criticizing the refs following the Wolverines’ double-overtime loss to Ohio State on Saturday.

Jim Harbaugh crossed the line, and Michigan must now pay for it.

Harbaugh blasted the refs during his post-game press conference after the Wolverines lost to Ohio State, 30-27, in double overtime Saturday, saying he was “bitterly disappointed with the officiating,” during The Game.

The Big Ten issued a statement on Monday, publicly reprimanding Harbaugh for his outburst and handing the University of Michigan a $10,000 fine because of his actions. Following is the full statement from Assistant Commissioner Kerry B. Kenny:

The Big Ten office today issued a public reprimand of Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh for violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy following Michigan’s game against Ohio State on Nov. 26, 2016. In addition, the conference announced that the institution has been fined $10,000 as a result of the violation.

The Big Ten determined that Harbaugh’s postgame comments regarding officials were in violation of Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01, which states in part that “The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials.” Coaches are teachers as well, and there is an expectation that they set the example for students and others in the area of sportsmanship.

The Big Ten Conference considers this matter concluded and will have no further comment.

Harbaugh mainly took issue with the officials’ spot of the ball following Ohio State’s 4th-and-1 play in the second overtime. With Michigan leading by three points, Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett lunged toward the 15-yard line for the first down, and the refs awarded him the spot that kept Ohio State’s drive alive. A video review confirmed the spot, and Curtis Samuel ran in for the winning touchdown on the very next play.

Harbaugh also wasn’t happy with multiple other calls and non-calls throughout the game. He was personally penalized for throwing his headset.

“The graphic display is the interference penalties,” Harbaugh said following the loss. “One not called (for) us on (Michigan wide receiver) Grant Perry – clearly he was being hooked before the ball got there. And the previous play they called on (Michigan defensive back) Delano Hill, the ball was uncatchable and (past) the receiver. So, I’m bitterly disappointed.”
